The Big Indochina Trip: exploring Phnom Penh 

After the harrowing journey here it has felt really good to not have to travel for a few days, just stay in one hotel. I came down with a case of traveler’s diarrhea so I’ve been cooped up in the hotel for a day but other than that we’ve been out exploring the city.

Right around the corner from our hotel is the National Museum of Cambodia. It houses quite a collection of ancient statues from all around the country.  The building itself is pretty nice too.

The big Indochina trip: exploring Luang Prabang 

Today I’ve had a relaxed day walking around central Luang Prabang, checking out the various temples and museums. 

I started with Luang Prabang national museum which contains the royal palace as well as the Prabang temple. The palace is suitably luxurious and besides showing off the various rooms has a number of royal gifts on display. You aren’t allowed to take photos inside but it’s interesting.  The Prabang temple is newly built but very elaborately decorated, it’s really impressive. Old town and Vasa museum

On Friday we took the Hop On Hop Off tour bus, hoping to see the city in leisure. This turned out to be a bit of a failure because the bus was exceedingly full. None the less, we got to old town around mid morning, and spent the rest of the morning walking around old town.  Perhaps a bit too much walking for Yini’s dad but otherwise nice.
