To my left, green mountains with bare Rocky cliffs, a blue sky up above and a slope down towards azure blue sea. In front of me a thin band of asphalt bending of to the right. I slow down and savor the moment of being on a motorized two wheeler once again, my girlfriend behind me and the wind on my face. Then I lean into the curve and twist my right hand, the scooter shoots forward and zooms through the bend while a fizzy feeling of speed bubbles up within me.… Read the rest
The orange globe of the sun hangs low in the december sky, barely reaching above the mountain range in the east. It spreads its amber rays over the white snow causing everything to sparkle with joy. The air feels crisp and cool against my skin as I speed down the slope in long, sweeping turns, cutting a smooth, clear path through the corduroy surface. This is one of those moments when everything just comes together and it is, in a word, perfect. I live for moments like this!… Read the rest
The sky has been painted in a lustrous gradient from dark blue above my head seamlessly changing to a lighter blue then yellow and finally pink bordering on orange. Grey clouds sweep across the pink like heavy brush strokes, turning to solid at the horizon. I know there is no land there but the cliffs are there no less. Right below the horizon a gleaming streak of yellowish white from left to right, like the trail of some fast-moving thing. The water is otherwise a greyish blue, ever so slightly tinted in yellow and pink where it mirrors the sky. … Read the rest
To the left the sky is filled with blue-tinted grey clouds that form a ragged edge where they meet a sky shifting in colors. It starts high up as a washed out yellow that streaks the edges of the cloud rags then changes to orange and later pink closer to the distant hills. The gradient sweeps to the right turning the sky light blue then grey with hazy clouds that seem to be part of the hills. Down below the city still dwells in darkness except for the warm glow of street lights. A cool breeze gently ruffles the darkened … Read the rest
The lake is a mirror painted in a bright sky blue with clouds of silver, turning to a dark green where it meets the billowing line of lush forest on the other side. The high summer heat is lingering longer than expected and the sun shines hotly on me and my parents. We sit here on the jetty eating Blinij with caviar. Quite possibly my favorite food in the entire world, and eating them right here together with my family is possibly the best way. I glance out over the semi finished sundeck me and my father have been working … Read the rest
Ancient steel trusses pass by to the sides and overhead, flowing backward as I speed forwards on this narrow train bridge come bike bridge. The river landscape around me becomes faded as the sun sets and ahead of me looms the narrow, almost drop shaped opening of the tunnel. With its rough cement walls covered by a hundred years of grime from passing trains, the tunnel should be an unwelcoming place but a series of bulbous lights in the ceiling stretch out into the darkness like a band of glowing pearls, casting a light over the cyclists inside. Long, straight … Read the rest
In the upper left corner of my field of view is a tree lit up from below, high above a few lonely stars look down on me from a totally black sky and right in front of me a cloud of steam rises up from the next pool, swirling poetically skywards. There is a murmur of voices all around from people enjoying the relaxing warmth of the waters. Centered on me though, there seems to be a bubble of emptiness, I hear little of the murmur and see little of the swirling mists even though it is right in front … Read the rest
The road curves about like an asphalt snake and I have to adjust the throttle carefully to flow smoothly through the bends. My clothes flutter in the wind and the sun glares in the scratched surface of the visor on my helmet. The touch of my girlfriends thighs against mine remind me of her presence. The high pitched roar of the scooters little engine accompanies us as we zoom through the landscape’s bends and turns. To the right, the high, light green mountains of Taiwan’s eastern seaboard, to the left the pacific ocean. Far out a bright sapphire blue, followed … Read the rest
The world is being reborn, tiny little leaves sprouting at the end of some branches while other trees are barren still. The grass is getting greener by the day although dried leaves from last year still litter the ground. The sky is light blue but not clear, a thin film of clouds cover it. There is birdsong in the air and the sun creates an area of fuzzy brightness as it sinks behind some hills. I notice absolutely nothing of this as I zoom down the slope on a ribbon of asphalt. My mind is focused on keeping the balance … Read the rest
The world is without sound. The soft, fluffy snow beneath my board dampens out all but the wind. It is hard to describe this feeling, the snow is so soft it feels like floating on clouds, yet I cut through it like a knife through sun warm butter. At the same it is harsh, brown reeds and scraping sounds remind me of bumps and ridges and the wind bites in to the skin on my face. There is a kind of flow to it, the softness, the cold and the speed merging to create that special fluid feeling that is … Read the rest
