Cold Stone has a lot of fantastic looking ice cream but I always found it hard to choose which one to have. The problem is that I only rarely went there, so I kept forgetting which ones I tried before and more than likely ended up trying the same ones over and over.

A while ago I decided to rectify this by simply trying all of them and writing it down. It turned into a series of mini reviews in the notes app of my phone. I finally tried the last one on the list, and for some reason I figured I should post my reviews here for my readers (all 3 of them). So here we are, a guy you’ve never heard of reviewing some ice cream (not in any particular order):

I based this on the English menu in Cold Stone Taiwan. I tried all the standard ice creams but not new or seasonal ones

1. Our Strawberry blonde:

This thing is kind of like a big scoop of flavoured strawberry ice cream. The real strawberries inside help a bit but I’ve had other brands of strawberry ice cream that have more flavor without all the fancy mixing that Cold Stone does. Rather boring. 2.5/5

2. Mud Pie Mojo:

I don’t normally like coffee but this is not too bad. the Oreos and peanut butter are a nice touch and give some good crunch. 3/5

3. Banana Caramel Crunch:

Classic combo of flavors, banana and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce is always delicious. Nice crunchy almonds too, enough said. 4/5

4. Peanut Butter Cup Perfection:

Peanut butter cups (which I guess this is modeled on) are a great type of candy but the chocolate ice cream is overwhelming. 2/5

5. Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip:

You can’t go wrong with mint and chocolate and this one is right up there in terms of quality. The brownie adds some chewiness and the chocolate chips add some good crunch. 4/5

6. Cheesecake Fantasy:

The berries and cookie crumbs were good but the cheesecake ice cream is pretty bland. 2.5/5

7. Strawberry Banana Rendezvous:

At first I thought this was pretty average, giving it a score of 3/5. Later I tried it a second time and had to change my rating. The pie crust and chocolate chip give some really nice crunch that complements the banana really well. The strawberry ice cream is a bit too mild but the real berries are a nice touch. 4/5

8. Coffee Lovers Only:

The coffee ice cream is a bit overwhelming for my taste. The caramel brittle and Carmel suace are good but don’t quite mesh with the ice cream. 3/5

9. Berry Berry Berry Good:

Vanilla ice cream and berries, a really classic flavour combination. Very fresh, not too sweet. 4/5

10. Cookie Mintster:

The mint ice cream is really nice but the Oreos aren’t chocolatey enough to balance the flavours. 3/5

11. Strawberry Shortcake Serenade:

The vanilla ice cream has almost no flavour, the cake does nothing to improve it and has a strange texture, only the strawberries are good. Over all quite bland. 2/5

12. Just Looking for Tea:

I’ve been dreading this one because Tie Guan Yin is not a flavor I enjoy, and I wouldn’t normally buy it unless it was for this review. The ice cream has that strange green tea flavour that tastes like it’s powdery even though it cannot actually be so. This is not a good ice cream, the only thing saving it are the raisins and pumpkin seeds and even those are questionable in an ice cream shop. 1/5

On a quick side note, Haagendaz did have tea flavored ice cream once which was pretty good, but that was made from black tea which is more suited to being sweetened, in my opinion.

13. Chocolate Devotion:

I often think chocolate ice cream is too strong a flavor but it works really well in this combination. The brownie adds some nice chewiness and sweetness and the chocolate chips give some good crunch. 3.5/5

14. Cookie Overload:

Who thought combining both chocolate chips and Oreos in a single scoop of ice cream could be so revolutionary? It looks a bit boring on paper but the double crunch is awesome. The vanilla ice cream is perhaps not spectacular but it works really well as a carrier for the other flavors. 4/5

15. Matcha Berry:

Matcha is another flavor I dislike. I think it’s drinkable in tea form but I tend to stay away from all matcha desserts. Just like I expected the ice cream does not taste good, it’s just not a flavor that’s suitable for being sweetened. The little glutinous rice balls on top (or whatever they are) add some nice chewiness, sort of like marshmallows(?) and the strawberries are good as always. I just can’t get over the matcha ice cream. 1.5/5

16. Very Berry Good:

The sorbet is nearly flavorless which makes eating it kind of like eating a bowl full of frozen berries. Nothing wrong with frozen berries, but it’s not what you expect from an ice cream shop. 3/5

17. At the Cocoa Banana Cabana:

This one is pretty bland, banana is not a strong enough flavor on its own and the other ingredients don’t do much to help it. The texture is also pretty bland with mushy yellow cake and soft banana. overall just bland. 2/5

19. Founder’s Favorite:

I’ll say straight away that the founder was wrong. This is not a bad ice cream per se but favorite? I think not. The brownie is nice and chewy the nuts are crunchy and the ice cream brings it all together but there is nothing in there to make it stand out from the crowd, 3/5
